Christmas break?

Okay, so not only did my three sons get an early out snow day & a fullsnow the next day the last days before Christmas break, but our school district gave them 'til January 7th to go back? Doesn't sound bad until you do the math! December 20th thru January 7th is 17 & 1/2 days...notice the mention of the "1/2"?
I LOVE these boys, just we used to only get 'til Jan 2nd or 3rd...I accurately remember because my birthday is Jan 3rd...so always bummed b/c it sucked 2 go back on my bday!
Any who...first time ever...my 2 youngest boys slept over (& 2 nites no less) somewhere besides my mom's. Then 16 yr old stayed over @ his friend's? Two nights no kids? Shane & I have NEVER been kid free for no reason! Typically we have somwhere to go that we can't take kids. Painfully obvious that our world are kids, school, & work! We don't even keep liquor in the house...so boring, but 20 years of marriage, so I feel lucky.

Next thing ....#1 son is almost 17. He was pacing around all morning, so I encouraged him to go for a walk. I told him to be home in an hour. He decided to go check on his friend whose father deployed overseas today...great kid right, but he has it in his head that if another adult asks my permission when he knows it's a NO. I told him if it happened again, he would be grounded. Of course his friend's mom texted me to ask if he can stay longer. I explained the reason i said NO...I must be consistent or he would make assumptions for future situations. She apologized & begged me not to ground him b/c ge didn't know she asked. But the more bizaar part is she still wantedme to reconsider! When my son returned home, was mad b/c she cried! Am I a terrible person for thinking she should feel bad since I had dropped several subtle hints that it was inappropiate. So am i the only person who would be annoyed by someone else getting their feelings hurt?
